Casey Rivero has spent 25 years in cannabis and controlled-environment agriculture, moving from hands-on commercial cultivation into the technology and strategy side of the industry. As a Cannabis Solutions Architect at Fluence, a Signify company, he works with cultivators to translate the science of horticultural lighting into practical, repeatable results on the grow floor.
He has grown cannabis since 2001, cutting his teeth in Arizona’s medical market in roles spanning cultivation management, facility design, and grower education. He went on to serve as Director of Cultivation and Owner at Yerba Buena Farms in Oregon, building efficient, sustainable production for the state’s adult-use market. That operator’s-eye view runs the full width of a facility — lighting, nutrients, substrate, environmental controls, and the software and business models that hold it together — and lets him meet growers where they are, from craft grows to commercial scale.
Since joining Fluence in 2019, Casey has become a frequent voice in the industry. He has led educational sessions and grower panels at MJBizCon, contributed to Resource Innovation Institute and DesignLights Consortium work on CEA lighting efficiency, and authored resource articles for Fluence on craft cultivation, common grower mistakes, and the trade-offs between indoor and greenhouse production. His throughline is consistent: cultivation is both an art and a science, and durable success comes from building deliberate, quality-first systems rather than chasing yield alone.
