11 Apr Fluence Shines Light on MedMen Mustang: State-of-the-Art Cannabis Greenhouse
New Greenhouse Supplemented with Fluence LED Solutions Enables MedMen to Increase Crop Yield and Quality to Consistently Address Record Cannabis Demand in Nevada
Austin, TX – April 11, 2018 – Fluence Bioengineering, Inc. today announced that MedMen, a leading U.S. cannabis company, has deployed Fluence VYPRx PLUS horticulture lighting solutions in the company’s new cannabis greenhouse. With 100 percent of its supplemental lighting coming from state-of-the-art horticulture LED technology, MedMen can consistently deliver high-quality cannabis year-round, while reducing operating costs and energy consumption when compared to traditional high-pressure sodium (HPS) lighting systems.
“We’ve been working closely with Fluence over the past few years on advancing cannabis cultivation, and we’re setting the standard for the industry by deploying Fluence LED solutions at the nation’s most high-tech cannabis factory. With Fluence, we’re avoiding seasonal variations in production while achieving the lowest operating cost and being environmentally sustainable,” said Andrew Modlin, President and Co-Founder, MedMen.
The Fluence VYPRx PLUS LED solutions at MedMen Mustang will deliver an average photosynthetic photon flux density (PPFD) up to 500 µmol/m2/s to supplement sunlight throughout the year. By providing such high light intensities with minimal radiant heat, MedMen is able to mitigate lower yields and quality at times of reduced sunlight and instead deliver a more consistent, higher-quality crop year-round.
By deploying Fluence VYPRx PLUS LED solutions, MedMen will:
Address Growing Demand: MedMen Mustang builds on the success of the firm’s first cultivation facility located in Los Angeles, CA where MedMen increased crop yield by 157 percent by deploying Fluence LED solutions. This facility positions MedMen to further surpass record breaking cannabis sales in Nevada.
Increase Yields: The VYPRx PLUS delivers high-levels of uniform PPFD, enabling MedMen to increase photosynthesis in each plant which results in higher crop yields.
Improve Plant Quality: With a broad-spectrum light, MedMen is targeting key photoreceptors responsible for enhanced plant development.
Save Energy: By implementing a state-of-the-art greenhouse with efficient LED technology instead of traditional HPS lighting, MedMen is significantly reducing its overall energy consumption, operating cost and carbon footprint.
Maximize Land-Use: With an innovative, two-tier design that is not possible with traditional HPS lighting systems, MedMen is cutting the land-use of their vegetative space in half.
“The MedMen Mustang facility represents the future of commercial greenhouse cannabis production, and we’re proud to play a role in moving the industry forward,” said Nick Klase, CEO and Co-Founder, Fluence Bioengineering. “We were honored when MedMen selected Fluence for their L.A.-based vertical farm in 2016, and we’re honored today with their decision to deploy VYPRx PLUS for their Mustang greenhouse operation.”
